QUEER EXPRESSION THROUGH COMICS

Michel Levesque is a graphic artist and art educator who specializes in
teaching and developing community-based art programs using comics. Michel
teaches individuals how to make comics in community settings to foster
meaningful relationships and support networks. In the fall of 2010, Michel
was awarded an Ontario Arts Council and City of Ottawa grant to run the
Queer Youth Comics Project, a community arts project teaching LGBTQ youth
how to make comics to build community.

Workshop: Building Queer Community through Comics
This workshop will teach participants how comics can be used to express
queer identities and experiences. No artistic or literary skills are
required to attend this workshop. Drawing stick people is welcomed and
encouraged. Participants will learn the basic principles behind writing and
drawing comics as a positive and creative tool for expressing queer
identities in the context of community art projects.
